Conventional eDNA workflows require active filtration, centrifuges, and column purification, all of which need a laboratory. Long filtration times restrict sample replication in the field. The extraction step creates a bottleneck between collection and result. Passive sampling and portable extraction address both constraints.
With this approach, Biosecurity agencies can detect a specific target organism from environmental tissue using CRISPR, with PDQeX extraction as the enabling first step.
